Join the “Holiday Ocean Count” by eOceans®! 🌊

Modeled after the 'Christmas Bird Count,' eOceans® proudly presents the inaugural “Holiday Ocean Count”. Instead of counting birds, however, we invite you to help document the value of our cherished ocean spaces — to protect them for the future.

Your Challenge: Log 50+ observations of your ocean or coastline in the eOceans app before January 1, 2024.

This project is dedicated to and supported by Youth around the world.

📅 “Holiday Ocean Count” — Begins NOW!

We invite you to be part of the first ever “Holiday Ocean Count”. This is not your typical year-end event; it's a celebration of our planet's lifeline – the ocean. Think of it as a massive annual ocean census, and guess what? You're the lead explorer!

🦑 Modeled after the renowned Christmas Bird Count.

The “Holiday Ocean Count” is more than a snapshot; it's a global community project that unites people for the ocean. Each observation you submit to eOceans tells a piece of the ocean’s story at that place and time. eOceans will then assemble all the pieces to describe the health and value of our ocean. When we repeat this, year after year, we can document and strategize ocean recovery.

🚀 Youth-Led and Future-Focused:

This isn't just a count; it's a movement that was inspired by our Youth and the power they hold for the future. By participating, you become a vital part of telling the ocean’s story and supporting new actions that fuel global efforts in ethical ocean conservation.

“As a future marine scientist who is actively trying to protect my coastline and uThukela Marine Protected Area in South Africa, participating in the “Holiday Ocean Count” is an exciting opportunity for myself and Youth worldwide to actively engage in monitoring and celebrating the positive changes in our ocean, and ensuring that smart decisions are made for our future.” — Tahirah Naicker, H.O.P.E.

📱 How to get started?

Downloading the eOceans app is your avenue to participate. Log your ocean observations, whether you're near the shore, on a dive, or taking a stroll on the beach. It all matters!

For the month of December, even if you are travelling to a new place, log 50+ observations before Jan 1, 2024.

Your observations, big or small, contribute to a global narrative of ocean recovery and access.
