If you haven't heard yet, ocean temperatures have surged to unprecedented highs. Unfortunately, this isn't positive news. The implications are still unfolding. Coral bleaching is a key indicator of the detrimental effects of heat stress on marine life. Follow and support the incredible team dedicated to tracking what's happening and doing what they can to protect ocean ecosystems. Can you imagine that we are still describing ocean species, let alone of one the most recognized ocean species in the world? Orcinus rectipinnus OR Orcinus ater It’s nearly impossible to keep up across 200,000+ species. This is why the eOceans® app updates thousands of new species names every month, so your work can keep up with these changes. #species #conservation #blueeconomy https://lnkd.in/gFzQ4VRz

There is a growing interest to protect surf sites, which also protects the sites biodiversity from commercial and illegal fishing, pollution, developments, and habitat destruction — a win-win for social values and ocean health. Help your community be heard in any disputes about ocean use and pollution, by gathering community data that documents the importance of your area. This is especially important right now because there is global push to grow the ocean economy — activities that can make money from ocean spaces. If smart decisions aren't made with local communities and values in mind, then they may be displaced by 'other' activities. That's what part of the "Human Dimension" reporting is about. Identifying and protecting valued ocean and coastal spaces. Log observations in the eOceans app today! Check out Save the Waves Coalition #eOceans #socialvalue #favouriteplaces
