Winesap Apple

from $59.99

Once a staple apple, Winesap was unfortunately all but forgotten with the advent of controlled atmosphere storage, which allowed a wider variety of apples to be sold over the course of the year. Resistant to fire blight, apple rust, and powdery mildew, although somewhat susceptible to scab (less so in drier climates), Winesap’s disease resistance for an heirloom is quite surprising. We are growing thee in limited supply because they are not our most hardy apples, but they are worth growing for their flavor, which is sweet yet tart, slightly astringent in its acidity and bold. Hardy to zone 4, only for the warmer parts of Montana (places that don’t see below -30).
